***Don't read if you haven't seen the movie***

***Last Chance to stop***

Okay, for all of you still with me, here are two different interpretations of the ending mentioned on the Movies.com website...

1) here's where the logic breaks down. ok clearly the two planets are not the same, i have heard that they were both earth, not quite sure how earth would have obtained an extra moon and completely changed orbit in only a few thousand years, but hey that's been said. nope. they are different planets. so when wahlberg started the one reality by bringing the oberon to the planet and starting that evolutionary change in 2600 on planet A how could he have done the same on earth 500 years earlier? this is what i'm saying. he deviated from one path and started this new reality of apes on this planet. so he goes back in time 500 years to a different planet earth therefore everything from the original timeline couldn't exist. no ari, no thade nobody. can someone please tell me without jumping through hoops of flame how it is possible that this works out?

2) The ending makes complete since when you think about it. In 2029 Mark (was with his crew. He hit the electical storm and shot 400 years into the future (around 2400) and landed on Earth. When the larger ship hit the electrical storm they shot thousands of years into the past and landed on Earth. They introduced the genetically engineered monkeys to the planet Earth. After thousands of years the genertically engineered monkeys evolved into the intelligent apes. Mark is on Earth in 2400 after the apes had evolved and taken over the planet. That is why the ship is there but its relics are thousands of years old. Remember when the ape played by Heston said the humans once ruled the planet? Anyway, so when Mark leaves the planet and hits the electical field he is transported back to 2029. He lands on planet Earth, but planet Earth has changed because the main ship went back in time and introduced the planet to advanced apes thousands of years earlier. The ape on the Lincoln Memorial was obviously a relative of the leader of the ape army. Remember, Heston said his family had ruled for a long time.

It all makes sense when you think about it, and it is a very clever twist on the original story. They HAD to keep the Earth tie-in, it was what made the movie great 30 years ago. The amazing thing is that Burton has us all thinking it wasn't Earth...that is genius.

Personally, I agree with the first explanation but hey, I think we'll have to wait for the sequel.
