Very sad stuff. Many folks aren't aware of this, but the average life expectancy for a former NFL player is only 55 or so. This is one of the reasons why retired players can begin taking their pensions when they hit 45.

There is a steep price to pay for extreme physical pounding on your body, along with being so large, which turns to a tremendous liability if you don't lose the weight.

Apparently he suffered from sleep apnea, which is common among those who are large or overweight. What a good man he was, and how sad for his children and his wife.
