Small chapters often get hijacked

Good luck to you and the Fraters.

4,000 students is not a small campus - and don't think your chapter should be small. 4,000 may be smaller than UVa and W&M and state schools, but there are lots of tiny 500 - 1000 student schools (many with thriving Greek systems).

Small chapters often get hijacked by a few members (often the weakest members) who fear success. They object to prospective members as "not meeting our standards" and say they "wouldn't add anything" when the opposite is true. If you've got five guys with an attitude like you seem to have, and each of you bring in three pledges each, you've got a nice pledge class.

And the single factor most associated with a successful chapter is an active advisor. If you don't have a good local guy, start looking - he doesn't have to be a TKE alum.

Best wishes.
