Rules of fixing stuff:

If it moves and isn't supposed to, use duct tape.

If it doesn't move and it's supposed to, use WD40.

Other words of wisdom I've learned at "The #1 Undergrad Engineering School (Ed. Note: for what that's worth)"

Civil Engineers:
You can't push a rope.
Soil+water=mud
$h!t flows downhill.
If it moves, it's broken

Electrical Engineers:
All electronics are filled with magic white smoke. If you put too much power through a component and let all the magic smoke out, it doesn't work anymore.

The best way to remember something, such as the color code for resistors is to associate it with a limerick, either about sex or food. (The prof. that told me this is a dirty old cynical man. Too bad he's retiring)
