I quit cold-turkey a few years ago and gained 35 pounds in 3 months....I started smoking again.

OTW---My doctor told me that her patients have had the most success with quitting by using Nicorette gum. Apparently, it works better than the patch for most people because: a) it gives you something to do with your mouth and b) you can control your nicotine intake by using it only when you need it. (Can't do that with the patch.)

My, as yet untouched, package of Nicorette is sitting in my medicine cabinet. I'm just too nervous to try it.

However, a friend of mine went through hypnosis a few months ago to quit. She hasn't gone near a cigarette since! I think I'm going to try hypnosis.

Best of luck quitting!
I've actually tried the Nicosh*t gum and I know it's not supposed to taste good, but it's so horrible that I can't even keep it in my mouth! That didn't work.

My brother and my sisters smoke also. My eldest sister tried the patch and it simply screwed with her. My doctor said that while the patch has its side effects, it doesn't happen to everyone.

Hypnosis seems interesting. I'll probably look into that.

Thanks for the info, you guys.
