I can't remember all of his examples, but on Abortion Rights, he claims that about 10% of Americans are absolutely Pro-Life, about 30% are hard core Pro-Choice and the other 60% are somewhere in the middle -- ie in favor of choice in circumstances such as rape, disease, etc.
In any event, he feels that the "split" in the country isn't nearly as dramatic as all of the pre and post election hoopla would lead us to believe.

In all honesty, when I was reading the cartoon, I was thinking that I must be more purple than red or blue. I'm not normally a big fan of NPR, but I would totally agree with this analogy.
