Ok, just some brief stuff we learn in our pledge manual that no one's mentioned yet:

The first 'sorority' was the Adelphian Society, founded at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA in 1856. This later became Alpha Delta Pi.

A year later, the Philomuthean Society was founded at the same college - this later became Phi Mu.

Gamma Phi Beta, I believe, was the first to use the term "Sorority" - all before them were/still are known as "women's fraternities."
