However, in this day and age pulling shenanigans like that ain't gonna stay secret for long, considering how antagonistic the press can get with the military. It'd explode into a scandal of Watergate-size proportions.
Back in them bad old days, Gen. Curtis LeMay was Air Force Chief of Staff, fresh out of a tour as Commander-in-Chief, Strategic Air Command. His ultra-hawk-like tendencies were no secret. A few other flag officers agreed with his views.
