where i'm from, a skank is a girl who smells bad, or looks like she would have an offensive odor if you got close enough. also, their clothes don't fit right: the tops are too tight, if they're larger girls, or too loose if they're thin; often times stained. skanks love grunge music. the mid-90s was the Skank Renaissance or the Skank Age. they're usually nice girls, though. They just lean so far away from being superficial the image they project is dirty and possibly stinky.
*it's also a slang percussion term
