My mother (a doctor) once told me the lovely story of the teenaged babysitter who came to the ER because she was wearing dangling earrings when she went to babysit... baby saw something shiny dangling in front of his/her eyes, reached up and yanked... ow.  Stud earrings are safest around little people.
