I'm a little on the fence about the direction Girlfriends is taking. It seems that the more "mainstream" UPN tries to get with shows like Kevin Hill and Veronica Mars, the more cartoonish the characters on their core "black" comedies become. When GF first started, I could draw parallels between their lives and the lives of my friends. Now they're all playing "types" and watching it sometimes makes me uncomfortable. Toni belching every five minutes? I've never known a pregnant woman who was that crass, and I've known some COUNTRY pregnant women. Joan's neuroses? It was cute, but she's this close to representing the stereotypical "black woman who thinks she's nothing without a man" and Maya's starting to move into "Sapphire" territory. It's scary - the most centered member of the ensemble seems to be Lynn, and I for one never saw that coming.

Is anyone else conflicted when they watch the show, or am I overanalyzing things?
