I rather deal with the problems of illegalization than having deadly drugs like E and Heroine legal. I'd rather not have those drugs so readily accessable to society.
I do however think that the Criminal Justice system is failing on the whole Drug War thing. It might be successful if politicians did use this as an elections issue, maybe?

We would have more addicts for a few years, then it would tail off, and we would actually wind up with fewer adicts.
As it stands now, these drugs are illegal, and they are very accessible. Especially to minors. I guarantee you that its easier for a 16 year old kid to get cocaine than it is to get a six-pack of beer.
The problems of the War on Drugs are huge. The money behind the drug trade has a corrupting influence on the judicial system. The money spent by government agencies is huge, and the resources allocated fighting this war are immense. We have so many people serving time for possesion of small quantities of drugs that we can't increase sentences for violent criminals and sex offendors.
The War on Drugs can only succeed if we turn this nation into a police state, and implement draconian punishment for drug use. That's too high of a price to pay. To win the War on Drugs, we would have to destroy America. This nation ended a prohibition once. Its high time to do so again and preserve the liberty that we all cherish.
