At Eastern Michigan, 20 years ago, Thursday was often Friday. It was a "suitcase" college, meaning that most students went home for weekends, so if you were going to go out with your college friends, you did it Thursday night. There was also an attitude that it's not too bad to party on Thursday night because you only had to get through Friday and then it was the weekend. You can deal with being too tired for one day of classes.

I never missed class and once I was in my professional program, we only had class on Mon and Wed with fieldwork on Tues, Thurs or Friday (2 of the 3 days). We all scheduled the fieldwork for Tues and Thurs if possible.
