OK, here goes:
Mrs. DA was a Theatre major in college and taught it in high school as well as doing summer stock. Her brother and sisters were also involved in high school musicals. She was "Outstanding Freshman in Theatre" her first year of college.
Daughter #1 majored in Musical Theatre for two years before getting a Graphic Design degree. She appeared as Martha in The Secret Garden on the main stage as one of the ten top high school productions in the country at the International Thespian Festival her senior year in HS. She also did Working, Fiddler, Once Upon a Mattress and Little Shop of Horrors. She now is playing the female lead in the Fantastiks. Her husband is an actor/director/choreographer. She has done Secret Garden again twice, Into the Woods (Baker's Wife), Molly Brown (Molly), How to Succeed, Godspell, Superstar, Children of Eden and a lot of other professional and community theatre stuff. She also does voice over and on camera commercial work.
Daughter #2 did some theatre in HS, but not a lot. Although, like the other two, she was in the top select choirs. (She was our jock -- varsity volleyball)
Son #1 is majoring in Musical Theatre. He won solo vocal twice and vocal duet once at the Colorado State Thespian festival, and then won solo vocal nationally twice and performed on the main stage at the International Festival at Lincoln both times. He was Colin in The Secret Garden and Jack in Into the Woods in community theatre while in HS. He played Ren in Footloose, Adam in Children of Eden and Puck in Puck's Potion -- a musical written especially for his high school in which he got to "fly" along with seven other cast members. It was the most people that "Flying by Foy" had ever had in the air at one time -- even on Broadway or in Vegas. He also had ensemble parts in City of Angels and one other show that slips my mind at the moment. In college he has been in named roles in Chess, Sweet Charity, and A Little Night Music. Presently he is in rehearsals for one of the lead roles in Assassians. As a middle school student, he toured nationally with the Colorado Children's Chorale. He auditioned for five "highly selective" music and/or musical theatre college programs (including Cincinnati College Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, Indiana School of Music, Northwestern and the Weiszenhoffer School at Oklahoma) and was accepted in classes of 15 or 16 in all of them. He wants to give Broadway a shot -- God help him.
My wife and I give each other season tickets to the Broadway Series at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts every year for Christmas. It's a really outstanding series which has included the road show premieres of The Lion King and Sunset Boulevard.
I saw Whistle Down the Wind in London.
In New York I've seen, Promises, Promises (years ago while in college), Cats, Les Miz, Blood Brothers, Phantom, Sunset Boulevard, Miss Saigon, Rent, Aspects of Love, Nine, Hairspray, Movin' Out, Aida, Lion King and Wicked. There are a few more, probably which don't come to mind at the moment. In my previous job I used to get to NY reasonably often.
Mrs. DA and I saw most of the above in Denver when their tours came to town.
We also saw the world premiere (trial balloon) of Brooklyn at the Denver Civic Theatre. It opens on Broadway this Fall.
So, I guess you could say that Musical Theatre is a big part of our family life.
I can't carry a tune in a bucket. I can sing about one note. I think it's an R.
Proud father, husband and patron of musical theatre signing off.
