It's 4PM now and the eye still hasn't come ashore!! This thing is moving SO SLOW. I did evacuate of off AIA (the road that runs alongside the beach) and comes to a friend's house down in Coral Gables. My condo didn't have storm shutters and I am on the 15th floor, so I didn't think it would be safe to stay there. I covered all my furniture in plastic and put all valuables in the bathroom and the shower. My friend has storm shutters and we can hear the gusts come through. We are hearing some really strong gusts right now. The worst part of the storm is hitting north of West Palm Beach. We still have power (which is good considering it would be really HOT and DARK without it). We have been watching the TV reporters that are out in the middle of the storm.
One surfer up in Pompano Beach decided to jump off the pier with his surfboard into the ocean. What an idiot!! He didn't think there was a problem because he said he was such an accomplised surfer. The police were waiting to arrest him since he was in a mandatory evacuation area. Unfortunately, since the media continues to watch him surf, he has now become a celebrity because of the hurricane.
Oh well, we are safe and that is all that matters.... Hopefully everyone else going through this is OK too!!!
