A lot of Florida's infrastructure is not equipped to handle the mass evacuations sometimes ordered for a storm. Back in 1995, we spent about 3 hours traveling 40 miles or so (to the inland family home). To be in the path of such devastating storms, but not offering residents a safe way to leave quickly (for example, my area has 4 North/South thoroughfares--each 2 with two lanes) is ridiculous.
