I would like to introduce a new word into the debate: HICK

Down here in TX, redneck is not really a derogatory term. It's just meant to be someone who is a little more country. When you call someone a hick downhere, it is taken as more insulting.

Hillbilly is hardly ever used here. To me it seems like more of a Kentucky or Tennessee thing, but that's just me.

Also, white-trash is probably the most derogatory of them all around here. White-trash has nothing to do with being redneck or hick... It is something all by itself. It describes people who are just poor, don't speak well, and are all-around trashy. These people DO NOT have to be country. Actually, most of the white trash people I have seen were in big cities, like Dallas.
