of course you can hold it! I intend to let this pin have a wonderful second life...The next passage is from the seller - it isn't much history, but as you read this, the pin might not have ever been here at all...
"This pin for the last 10 years has resided in San Diego, CA with a very good friend of mine who collects fraternity and sorority pins. This pin was rescued from an LA swap meet a decade ago from a gold dealer. I say rescued because in all likelihood if he had not got his price back then he would have scrapped the pin out losing it forever. She has kept the pin until the right deal came along. Her father was a Sigma Chi and I had an 1898 all diamonds and emeralds Sigma Chi badge that she wanted. We swapped and that is all the history I know of the pin. The good news is that it has new life with an Alpha Phi!!!!"
