As it turns out, I had lunch Monday w/an Eastern Illinois alum that attended GA2004, and he told me that he'd gotten an email from the hypnotist. At this point I haven't gotten one (that I'm aware of, anyway). Then again, I have loads of spam each day and might have dumped it inadvertently.

Speaking as an alumnus AND as a vendor, the only reason I get email addresses is to follow-up w/members that express an interest in my services for their chapter. For your reference, releasing the list is fairly standard practice for all of the GLO's I deal with. This is especially true for the fraternities because the women's organizations are less apt to share this type of information.

That might lead some to figure that the way to avoid these type of emails is not give out one's personal address. Great idea, except the way that IHQ is letting you know what's going on w/an Impact Conference is...yup, your email address.

The bottom line to this is that it's a double-edged sword. While we get exceedingly fast info via supplying IHQ w/an email address, we also leave ourselves open to outsiders soliciting us. Just thought I'd share that thought...

BF
