A little bit of caffeine once in a while is okay, all the time is not.
I didn't have a coffee maker in my dorm, so Espresso was obviously out of the question. Vivarin was what helped me get through Political Philosophy and Theory as well as Political Analysis and Inquiry. Though I do not consume it now (I find there is no need to), I was very careful in my dosage. If I consumed a tablet, I made sure that I had no other forms of caffeine already in my system. But still, just because it worked for me, it may not work for everyone.
One finals week I was up for almost 36 hours straight doing papers and studying for finals, and Tae-Bo (I know, it's a little extreme) helped at 1 in the morning (even though my roomie didn't appreciate it).
Everyone has their own remedies, and hopefully you've found something that you're comfortable with that suits you fine.
Okay--so if anyone masters the art of sleeping with your eyes open (especially at work), please let me know!
