There was one, however, who came close to doing so. At the end of Woodrow Wilson's (FKY from UVa and Johns Hopkins) presidency, he was in such poor health, that Edith Wilson is considered to have assumed a large part of the role of President.

Ah yes, Edith...who convinced Woodrow to stay in office, even when he was FAR too sick to be a functional President. I'm not so big a fan of hers, but it's an interesting footnote in history.
