I think it's more the aggressive attitude California police departments emphasize on vehicle pursuits - they practically wrote the book on them! Must be the 'Captain Horsepower' attitude (get the sonofab*tchin' collar anyway you can).
On the other hand, the TV news here in DFW yesterday showed camera footage of a police chase gone horribly wrong - because there appeared to be no coordination between pursuing units. Cop from River Oaks (a Fort Worth suburb) pulls over a pickup, who then backs up, rams the front of the squad car and hauls ass outta there, the detaining officer in hot pursuit. Unbeknownst to him another assisting police car is trying to do the intercept on a cross street. Needless to say both cop cars wind up T-boned, the detaining officer who started the chase later died from his injuries. The truck - which was stolen - was found later, but they haven't yet found the c*cksucking perps.
