COLUMBUS, Ga. — One man's trash is another man's — money?
A backhoe operator found $46,000 in $20 bills, wrapped in clear plastic bags, while moving garbage at a Columbus landfill, authorities said Tuesday.
"It was found buried in garbage that had been there for some time," Deputy City Manager Isaiah Hugley said. "It had been there for a number of years."
The employee was digging trenches and moving bags of garbage when he spotted the money Friday. He notified his supervisor.

As of Tuesday, police had yet to determine where the money came from — bank robbery, drug deal, or from an old mattress? After 90 days, it becomes abandoned property, Slouchick said, and the city may be eligible to claim it.
