You have to understand the atmosphere of the campus. It's a very small, private engineering college that was male-only until 1995. And many of the administrators are alumni who were fraternity men and who give a lot of money to the college. As long as they don't seriously injure or kill anyone, the students get away with almost anything. That's just how that school is. My husband went to Rose and tells me stories of things they used to do (he was an ATO, their house was right next door to Triangle). Some of the isht they got away with was unbelievable. As long as they continue to be a private school and stay as prestigious as they are in regards to engineering, administration is not going to do much to the students.
This is much like Wabash College, an all male school, that is about 85% greek. Their only rule is to act gentlemanly in any situation. There are no other rules. For the most part the administration looks the other way and so does the city of Crawfordsville. The stories I could tell about some of my trips to Wabash (including being with guys who are drinking out of beer bottles in the LIBRARY!) would shock some of you. Many small private campuses get away with a lot more because their alums continue to pump money into the school and protect them from anything happening. One of the fraternities served alcoholic punch with their scholarship dinner at Wabash. Things like this probably wouldn't happen at larger private schools, and certainly not at state colleges.
