These parents are afraid for the safety of their children. I can respect that. I think that there are problems with violence, alcohol, and drug use and abuse in colleges that extend beyond the greek system.

We are frightened for our kids! We got away with some of the stuff we did because the world was a little bit different then. Hazing existed on my campus. (I was in a sorority.) But no one died from alchohol poisoning. We had quite a run in our home state for awhile. At least one frat pledge a year was dying from alchohol poisoning or drowning while swimming intoxicated. Yes, that is scary to us. Add in the factor that date rape drugs did not exist then. There are more factors to consider. Why do you think we don't want out kids to repeat our mistakes?
