I was really mad at t-mobile (voicestream) a couple of years ago. My phone got stolen but since it disapeared a night I was bouncing to a lot of different places I thought I just lost it and it would turn up in someone's car. I gave up after a couple of days and reported it. A couple of weeks later my bill shows up with over $70 worth of calls made to Mexico the night my phone was lost and then no further charges after that which suggests they immediately disposed of the phone. I called to ask them about it and they told me that since the calls were made before I reported it lost that I was responsible for the charges. Now, my boyfriends job is to run fraud detection on cell phone databases and t-mobile is their biggest client. According to him, these sudden foreign charges should have triggered an event and been under investigation.
Anyway, I called to close my account with them and only then did they offer to replace my phone, credit me for a month of service, etc. I said no, I'm with Verizon now and I've been pretty happy with them.
