At Harvard, the Massachusetts Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Kappa was chartered in 1779 when Harvard was 143 years old, and it has been going strong ever since. It is the oldest continuously operating chapter of any Greek organization.
The chapter is now known as Alpha Iota of Massachusetts; when Harvard and Radcliffe merged, alumnae of Radcliffe's Iota chapter were recognized as members of Alpha Iota. I'm proud to be a female member of the oldest fraternity on my campus!
