If there weren't, they followed soon thereafter. A lot of people in the mid-80s still felt that if they were going to get an IBM-compatible computer, they should just buy from IBM. Some of the clones were better, and some were cheaper, and some were more geared toward families' computing needs rather than businesses' needs (IBM is not called International
Business Machines for nothing), but you really had to know what was out there.
Anyone else remember the TRS-80? (Trash-80)
