Actually, the 10 commandments (thou shalt not commit murder)is under the old law as well. You were right when you said "When Jesus came, thereby taking on the burden of our sins, there was no longer a need for that type of law." Galatians provides a good insight into the new law and in verse 5:14 it states, "The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself. In essence, the 10 commandments is not needed because if you love your neighbor with the kind of love that God requires, then the laws spoken of in the 10 commandemnts won't be a problem. I would never even consider killing someone because of the love I have for them.
