My parents were getting phone calls from the annual fund office looking for donations
when I was a freshman. I remember that, at that time, I was having a terrible trouble getting my internet access to work. Of course, I couldn't get any help from the university staff. My dad politely informed the young man, "When my daughter starts receiving the services she's currently paying for....then I might donate something."
With that said, I think I gave a $25 donation when I was a senior and also joined the alumni association asap. I really enjoyed my time at my university and I would be happy to pitch in a little bit every now and again.
