The US was never as happy and harminious as the author would like to believe. There will always be a population/minority in the US that is under scrutiny and thought of as the reason that our country isn't stable. The author thinks that if we were all like one another that there wouldn't be as much fighting. Hello Hitler?

Before 1965, the US thought the Japanese were the reason for our country's downfall and they were put in detainment during WWII. Before that, the Irish (yes, Europeans!) were under much scrutiny. Blacks were and still are scrutinized against.

The reason the US was founded was as a nation of acceptance for people of all religions, races, and cultures.
