However, I'm not so sure it'd be that fun to watch. I'd say go with a hamster or something. Then you could buy one of those really cool cages and watch it for hours!

I duno much about reptiles, but when my friends and I were younger, one of their lizards/iguana/whatever got loose and ran up the tree. I don't remember if it ever came down.
