I agree that it is easier to attract girls than guys for all the above mentioned reasons. I think that guys would be more prone to join something if they were friends with the guys already. I also think that guys are already so actively involved in other activities (not that girls aren't) like sports teams and bands that they feel more like they don't have time for a frat. I dated a guy for 4 years in undergrad who was on the baseball team (and in a band). They were such a tight-knit group of guys that were already friendly with the frats and due to the time constraints of pledging is why him and his teammates chose not to go Greek then. Also many guys may feel they already have enough friends, why join a frat? These are just basic observations and by no means should totally be taken to heart, as I don't want to "stereotype" anyone. I think that girls are more into looking to make new friends when they go away to school which is why going Greek appeals to them more. I also recently met the actives of the Alpha chapter of D*Phi*E at NYU. They told me that they really don't get a lot of freshmen that pledge because they are so caught up in the "new college experience". However, by sophomore year, so many girls come to rush because they say that it was really hard for them to make friends first year. I say focus on older guys too to join, because it is probably the same for them as well. Good luck with your recruitment!!!!!
