Fullscreen chops off the sides to acheive a 1.33:1 aspect ratio.

Most movies have a 1.85:1, 2.00:1, 2.20, or 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Widescreen TV sets and displays have a 1.78:1 (16x9) aspect ratio.
