Madison is my absolute favorite capital city in the world . . . and a number of those magazines that make random lists ranking things usually agree with us. Almost always ranked high in Money magazine's top places to live in the US, recently the winner of Sports Illustrated's best college sports town award, some men's magazine claiming us one of the healthiest cities in the US (YES, in Wisconsin -- I am not sure I believe it either), another magazine just conferred some award on Madison for being the best place to own a business or somethign -- and these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Kitso, have you ever BEEN to Madison? I think you might like it -- there are a lot of similarities between Austin and Madison. But I'm not going to bother getting into a pissing contest over which capital city is best (of all the lame arguments . . . ) because I think both Austin and Madison are great and I'm happy with where I'm at.
One thing I LOVE about Madison is that it's so close to the Twin Cities, Milwaukee and Chicago -- so anything Madison lacks, like a big local music scene, can be found there. The Twin Cities has the most theaters per capita in the US (I saw my first opera there, some great dance, and wonderful theater) and a great music scene. Of course Chicago has amazing music and museums and food and stuff going on all the time. And Milwaukee has Summerfest -- what more could you ask for?
I also love Denver and Austin. My daddy wants to move to Austin when he retires, which he would have done earlier but he knows the rest of the family would have killed him. I think he imagines it being like Madison but with warmer weather. I can't think of any capitals I really hate, although there are a lot that are disappointing.
