Seriously, I like what Cleveland has done to clean itself up. Despite some of it's reputation, it's a really neat city.

Truth is that Columbus has a lot going for it and always has. It was, and maybe still is, the top test market in the nation because of the diversity (not only racial) of it's people and the cross section of economics -- everything from heavy industry to agribusiness -- with a huge dose of high tech and research with Ohio State and Batelle Memorial Institute. It has a lot of big city advantages, but with a fair amount of small town roots as well.

My biggest problem with Columbus is it's obsession with Ohio State -- but that is an economic issue to some extent as well I think. Here's my theory. When you think of the foremost cities in America -- they almost always have a major sports franchise. By that, I mean NFL, NBA, MLB. Columbus only has the NHL -- which itself is struggling. The reason Columbus doesn't have one of them is a matter of sports dollars. Within two to three hours in any direction, you find Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. There just aren't enough sports dollars to justify a team in Columbus.

But why am I talking about Cleveland? It's not a capital of anything.

Now, to address the Austin vs. Madison debate. I've spent some time in both and they are each spectacular in their own ways. I would have a tough time choosing between the two except to say that the area surrounding Madison is gorgeous -- much more so than Austin in my opinion.

As for the water park -- if you're talking about SeaWorld, isn't that really closer to San Antonio? I directed a large part of the TV show when it opened twenty years or so ago.
