Yes, the father died trying to save his daughter. But he was not actually at the Water Garden
when his daughter fell or waded in. He came running quickly after she and the other children had already gone under. It may not have made a difference if he had been there to tell her not to get so close or to grab her immediately after she went in, but it might have.
