I love going to Mexico.
Am only 2 hours from the border here. There are about 4 good spots to go.
Acuna - Its wher ethe rednecks go, and you will run into more Americans there then nationals. The Corona Club rocks. Great music. The stop for texas country artists; Pat Green, Reckless Kelly, Cory Morrow. Adri saw Pat Gren there last summer. The bar scenes in Desperado (with Selma Hayak and Antonio Banderas) were filmed at Corona Club.
Nuevo Laredo - where ya go to shop, get bottles, prescriptions, etc. Real cool, but not much nite life.
Reynosa - the fun party spot in the vally. Much safer than Matamoros.
Matamoros - Where most people go (especially the spring breakers). Its real dangerous. Tons of drug dealers and murders happen there all the time. The main rule in Matamoros is NEVER leave the main street. You will dissapear. THey always have people gettign abducted there and end up in pieces outside town on a ranch. They have a huge problem with drug dealers getting into human sacrifices for protection from the narcos. Yeah, ya gotta watch your ass when they bust out the ritual sacrifice shit. Its crazy. Even the locals stay away from Matamoros. Its nothing but bars and trouble. No shops, nothing. We went a few years ago and were with one of my brothers and his real-life youger brother who is a well known dealer up in Austin. We were treated like kings. It was awesome. Kinda scary looking back on it now.
I love the border tho its so cool. Its all about the competing interests and everybody has an angle and wants something. Ya never felt so alive. Its a rush. Especially cause I am white, but speak spanish. Ya cross and everyone thinks youre a gringo tourist. Then I bust out with the spanish and theyre like 'whoa!' Its so wierd but I thrive on that dangerous vibe. Like ya know youre alive - ya gotta watch your ass. It rocks. My sister and I are going next month when she comes into town.
