This may be way outta left field, but one of my Brothers dates a girl from UVA. At our last formal, I was talking to her about a trip that my pledge class took to the school (PiKA was founded at UVA). We noticed a lot of weird symbols/letters/abbreviations adorning the buildings and grounds of the campus. The ones that I remember are a "Z" painted on the runners of nearly every set of stairs on campus (outside), the abb. "IMP" on several buildings, and in a few spots a symbol that resembled a % or a 7 (possibly symbolyizing the scroll and key society?). Anyway, in the course of our conversation, she mentioned that UVA has numerous secret societies, NOT including GLO's. She said some weren't that serious and gaining membership was almost as simple as showing up to an information session, but she said many of the others are almost eerily (sp?) secretive. With these groups, membership is not revealed until graduation when the members wear special insignia and she said that some never reveal membership.
So I've addressed a lot of topics that I would like ANY information on cause I am really interested by the whole secret society thing. Any input?
Edited to add: I always do that. Ask a ton of questions on here before doing a simple online search. I found a webpage from UVA that gives a description of the known secret societies.
