You have to be really careful of that here in NYC. I've spoken to a lot of people who've been double charged places. The best is when you go out with a friend, and he buys you a drink but those drinks he paid for show up *again* on your bill. It's easy for clubs and bars to get away with this stuff especially when people are intoxicated. When I go to new places I pay for my drinks one drink at a time to avoid this happening. And always in cash. I used to frequent a bar in my neighborhood and the bartender got mad because my friend wouldn't date him. After all the free drinks he gave us before she turned him down, she tried to pay the tab one night by credit card. He said the machine was out of order and not to worry about it. I went in there one night a couple weeks later and he wanted me to pick up the tab. Bottom line watch out for shady bartenders. If they can get away with getting your money they will try anything.
