I also turned 16 in 1995. I drove a powder blue 1987 Mustang LX that used to be my brother's. It had over 200,000 miles on it! I think when I graduated it had 213,000 something. It was a stick shift - which I loved! I miss having a stick. It had a sunroof, but no a/c. Which was definitely hot in FL! But I suffered through it.
Went to college in NC, but the 'rents didn't think the car would make it. So I sold it to a friend and had no car freshman year. Complained so much to my parents after that first year that they let me take the 1991 Mercury Sable station wagon. Ugh! I hated driving that thing. We called it the shaggin wagon and the puddle jumper. Everyone knew me by my car.
Well, the shaggin' wagon died, so my last year I shared my fiance's 1998 Eagle Talon. It was much better than the wagon! I loved driving that thing.
Graduated from college w/ no car. Parents felt bad, so they sold me their 1999 Ford Contour, which is what I currently drive. Hubby now drives my parents' old 1998 Explorer so they could get a brand new one.
I've never owned a new car, but I think that when I do, my first car will be a convertible, and I'd like to go back to the straight drive.
