Well, since I'll be working in Manhattan for the first few years of my career, I will gladly pay for the convenience of living close to home. I'm two subway stops away from my job right now and I LOVE IT. If I had a job that put me in the outer boroughs more often, I'd consider it. But, most of the firms in my field are in Manhattan.

There are some places in Manhattan I wouldn't live in--it's not about an area being "ghetto," it's just about personal preferences.

Since I'm not a native New Yorker, my living in an outer borough will not authenticate my residency.
