Of most of the introduced animals into Australia, the camel does not wear down the environment. They are soft hooved, whereas the wild boar is hard hooved and is destructive.
As i'm sure you already know, the camel is also quite hardy for the most part as they store huge amounts of fat in their humps as energy reserves when food is scarce.
