While on one hand, I agree with you, on the other hand, if you've ever been to a courthouse (I'm in one almost daily), the types of people there aren't exactly the most educated folks around. You can try to "educate", but many of the people in the courthouse aren't the types that are willing to subject themselves to learning.
The courthouse is their courthouse as well though. A public building should be very sensitive of the public that frequents it. Maybe move the symbol to the floor of a county office or something, maybe you could move it to the bankruptcy court area
, etc.. I just don't think anything that represents that part of history to some people (right or wrong) should be on public display.
