I thought back in the day, 50s or such, most men had to do a stint in the military? At least 2 years.
I remember my father (and relatives around his age)was in the military BRIEFLY. This was during the Korean war. This delayed his entering or either graduating from college. I can't remember, but I'm sure he would not have gone if he didn't have to.
