Since I don't have a huge stick up my ass, I ride the bus. Damned if I'm going to take 30 minutes to drive and park downtown when I can take the bus and get there in 5.

My car is a 99 Mazda Protege LX 5-speed. I normally get about 36 mpg.

And for those of you who whine about hauling - we haul our boat with my car and my dads (a 626) and it's fine, and we haul it with my mom's SUV, which still gets 27 mpg.

As for the comment about roads being bad - I can drive my car off-road, and in fact, during the summer it drives on gravel roads regularly. In addition, it drives on a freeway that was in such poor shape that they're practically blowing it up.

Do you know why you all really drive gas-guzzlers? Because you want to. Don't lie that you need it or it makes you feel safe or it's the only car that works - you bought that car knowing it would suck gas, and you don't care because there isn't any incentive for you to stop.
