I think Brad was trying to blend in with the rest of the actors.
Eg. Peter O'Toole, Brian Cox, Orlando Bloom, Saffron Burows, Sean Bean (I heart him too
). Almost all of the actors had British Accents, except Helen, and I believe she is German.
