We always had semesters but I know what you're saying because my ex went to a school that was on the quarter system for most of the time he was there. It was weird because he was never on break when I was, and it seemed like he always had finals or midterms! When he was a junior or senior, I can't remember, the school switched over to semesters and everything got screwed up...he said a lot of people had to take longer to finish their degrees because the classes they needed weren't offered as often. It was a mess.
Edited to Add: But, it would've been nice to have been able to start school in September instead of August like we did!
