Maybe she gave you a weird look because maybe you weren't supposed to know about the project.....it could be your freind didn't practice discretion.....who knows
However, I would suggested that you nicely, and kindly pull her to the side and talk to her and ask her what's up...if yall are cool like that...and then explain to her that your interest lie elsewhere and that you would like to continue to be friends and that you will support future events of hers as well as you would like her to support yours....good luck!
