The difference b/w the two that I see is that in the 50s and 60s everything was very elegant and classy - lots of straight lines with the pencil skirts and a-line skirts to complement any body type. Now, I'm not seeing much of the linear stuff and the pencil skirts ('cause it's driving me nuts trying to find a gray one with the slit up the front...if anyone knows of a store that has them please let me know!), but I am seeing tons of the ruffley stuff that I associate with the 80s. I HATE RUFFLES! And polka dots...I know they had lots of polka dots in the 50s and 60s, but I associate it with the 80s when it becomes obnoxious as opposed to being classy. And of course the hot pinks and greens and flouescent colors I'm seeing everywhere....that's very 80s-ish to me as opposed to being 50s or early 60s. I am seeing a lot of paisley as well...I don't know if that was around in the 50s but I sure remember it from the 80s.

I have seen some cute dresses that I think fit better with the 50s style - the ones that have the "piping" (I don't know what you'd call it) along the sides, such as a black dress with white satin trim. Make sense?

Again, I think it just depends on what piece of clothing you're looking at. If you have a denim a-line skirt, I'd probably see it as 50s style. If you have a denim a-line skirt with hella ruffles, I'd see it as an obnoxious 80s style skirt.

I definitely agree with you about how everything just kind of gets recycled around again...I guess I just see this new style as more of a throwback to the 80s with very little 50s thrown in...I think a lot of the stuff in the fall line was more 50s-ish. But that's just me...I'm not a fashion major but I'm a hard-core shopper and I am very picky!
